Jim L. Marts of McCook, Neb., died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. He was 67 years old.
Jim was born at Cambridge, on April 14, 1941, the son of George F. and Hannah O'Dell Marts. He graduated from Bartley High School in 1959.
On May 5, 1962, he married Barbara Graff at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook. Three children were born to this union.
Jim worked as a rig hand in the oil fields near McCook for more than 15 years for several oil companies. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker football fan. Jim helped deliver Meals on Wheels for the Senior Center, enjoyed bowling as well as watching bowling and fishing on TV. Jim enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was his father, George Marts and son, Christopher Joseph.
Survivors include: his wife Barbara of McCook; son, Sgt. Christopher James Marts, and wife Alison of Fort Carson, Colo., presently serving his country in Iraq; daughter Tammie S. Marts and Tim Redden and children Clinton and Clayton Redden all of McCook; his mother, Hannah Hageman of Cambridge; brother Robert Marts and wife Tina of Bartley; and sister Franny Chambers and husband Jerry of McCook.
Memorials may be given in his name.
Rosary will be Tuesday, at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour as Celebrant. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
