GRANT -- Lavona Elnora Nelson, 93, died Friday (July 11, 2008) at Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant.
She was born June 5, 1915, at the family ranch near Jennings, Kan., to Charles and Avis Bard. The family moved to Newark in 1921, where she attended school at District No. 24.
On Jan. 9, 1937, she married Floyd O. Nelson at the United Presbyterian parsonage in Minden. They moved to Palisade in 1939, and in 1942, they moved Des Moines, Iowa. They returned to Palisade in 1946.
She was a member of the Palisade United Methodist Church, Palisade UMW, Rebekah Lodge No. 254 and Builders Class. She was the Thrift shop manager, a piano teacher and business women.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd in 2000; parents; brother, Theodore "Ted"; sister, Wilma; and great-grandson, Christian Thurin.
Survivors include her two daughters, Karen and husband, Richard Thurin of Grant and Gloria Lawson of North Platte; brother-in-law, Richard Nelson of Lemoyne; sister-in-law, Iris Nelson of Grant Pass, Ore.; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were today at the Palisade United Methodist Church with the Revs. Judy Dye and Sally Ruggia-Haden officiating. Burial was in the Palisade Cemetery.
