ATWOOD -- Darlene E. Barnett, 77, died Saturday (July 12, 2008) at her home in Atwood.
She was born March 29, 1931, in Denver, Colo., to Earl and Ruth (Shutte) Thieler. She grew up in the Rexford, Kan., area and attended Hawkeye rural school. She graduated from Decatur County High School in 1949.
On June 6, 1949, she married Keith Barnett in Rexford. They lived on a farm north of Rexford until 1955, when she moved to Atwood. She worked as a secretary at Prairie Developmental Center for 26 years and with the Rawlins County Extension for 10 years.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Atwood.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Ruth Thieler.
Survivors include her husband, Keith Barnett of Atwood; stepmother, Lula Thieler of Colby, Kan.; sons, Dennis and wife, Pat of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Bill of Denver, Colo., and Mike and wife, Debbie of Hayes, Kan.; sister, Betty and husband, Rex Carswell of Rexford; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at First Christian Church in Atwood with the Revs. Chris Edwards and Lloyd Barnett officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Atwood.
There is no visitation.
Memorials may be given in her name.
