NORTH PLATTE -- Robert William Battreall, 80, of North Platte, died Monday (June 9, 2008) at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.

He was born March 1, 1928, in Hastings. He graduated from Lushton in 1945. He began his education career as a high school teacher in Pender in 1947.

He married Aloha Pozehl in 1948. In 1954, Robert graduated from York College with his associate's degree and in 1967, he earned his Master's degree from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

In 1970, Robert earned his advanced Master's degree from UNL. Robert also taught high school in Grafton and Brainard, Neb. He was the principal at Oxford and served as superintendent of schools in Maywood and Republican Valley.

While being an administrator, Robert became involved with education for the mentally challenged, and was on the Nebraska State Rehabilitation Committee for six years. Robert was the director of the North Platte Opportunity Center for 10 years.

Robert was an active member of the Buffalo Bill Kiwanis, serving in all the local offices for the organization as well as Lieutenant Governor for the Iowa-Nebraska District Division 24. In 1999, Robert was honored by the Buffalo Bill Kiwanis club, when he received the Hixon Award.

He became a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in 1984, and served on the Board of Education and Board of Elders.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Lucille Kistler Battreall.

Survivors include his wife, Aloha; two sons, David and wife, Patricia Battreall of McCook and Kent and wife, Shelly Battreall of North Platte; daughter, Carrie and husband, Doug McGinnis of North Platte; three brothers, Ronald, Richard and Raymond and wife, Red Battreall; sister, Linda Loge; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be Thursday, June 12, 2008, at 11 a.m., at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with the Rev. Carl Pullman officiating. Burial will follow at the North Platte Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 9 p.m. at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte.
