APA Pool League crowns champions

Several local pool players were awarded cash and trophies recently for winning the Spring Session of the American Poolplayers Association (APA) Pool Leagues.

In the Sunday East Open 8-Ball League, Outsiders from Charley's in McCook was awarded $325 for finishing in first place at the end of regular session play.

Pool Dawgs from Kelley Creek Pub in McCook took second place and $265.

In the finals of the playoffs, Pool Dawgs defeated Outsiders to take the Spring Session Championship trophies.

Since Pool Dawgs had already qualified, both teams advanced to the Western Nebraska APA 8-Ball Team Championships at the Republican River Valley Event Center in McCook to compete for a trip to the $500,000 APA 8-Ball National Team Championship in Las Vegas.

The Sportsmanship Award was presented to Beaver Creek Bankers from Beaver Creek Saloon in Danbury.

In the Tuesday Open 8-Ball League, Table Twisters from Charley's in McCook was awarded $500 for finishing in first place at the end of regular session play, Jagerminzters from Double Eagle Saloon at Trenton Lake collected $390 for second place while Kelley's Heros from Kelley Creek Pub in McCook received $220 for their third place finish.

In the finals of the playoffs, Jagerminzters defeated Table Twisters to take the Spring Session Championship trophies.

League MVP awards went to Shawn Sandman, Adam Brusoe and Jamie Tyan. Top Gun awards went to Shawn Sandman and Marci Hamilton.. The Sportsmanship Award was presented to T-Town Cruisers from Frank's in Trenton.

Members of T-Town Cruisers include Ed Powers, Julie Peterson, Robert Peterson, Brian Eyl, Leslie Peterson, Megan Brennan, Todd Hovey and Joe Elliott.

In the Wednesday Masters League, Rockin' Robin I from Overtime in McCook was awarded $182 for finishing in first place at the end of regular session play and T-Town Cruisers from Frank's in Trenton collected $148 for second place.

In the finals of the playoffs, Rockin' Robin I defeated Young Gunz from Overtime in McCook to take the Spring Session Championship trophies.

Rockin' Robin I advanced to the Western Nebraska Masters Championships in McCook to compete for a trip to the $28,800 APA Masters National Championships in Las Vegas.

Team members of Rockin' Robin I include Al Rothmeyer, Marlin Springer, Matt Mooney and Burton Burton.

The Sportsmanship Award was presented to Beaver Creek Hunters from Beaver Creek Saloon in Danbury.

In the Thursday Open 9-Ball League, Rockin' Robin from Overtime in McCook was awarded $450 for finishing in first place at the end of regular session play, Kelley's Crooks from Kelley Creek Pub in McCook collected $380 for second place, Snappin' 9's from Charley's in McCook took third place and $320 while Rack Rattlers from Charley's in McCook earned $240 for fourth place.

In the finals of the playoffs, Longshots from Charley's in McCook defeated Snappin' 9's to take the Spring Session Championship trophies.

Longshots advanced to the Western Nebraska APA 9-Ball Team Championships in McCook to compete for a trip to the $200,000 APA 9-Ball National Team Championships in Las Vegas.

Team members of Longshots include Billy Shafer, Pauline Shafer, Robert Yost, Mike Shafer, Rick Shafer, Vickie Thornbrugh, David Thornbrugh and the late Glenn Morgan.

League MVP awards went to Sonny Borges, Phil Bailey, Colleen McVicker and Ben Howard. Top Gun awards went to Sonny Borges and Colleen McVicker. The Sportsmanship Award was presented to Double Eagle Saloon from Trenton Lake.

In the Friday Ladies 8-Ball League, No Worries from Charley's in McCook was awarded $350 for finishing in first place at the end of regular session play.

In the finals of the playoffs, No Worries defeated Frank's Pool Slayers from Frank's in Trenton to take the Spring Session Championship trophies.

No Worries was also presented the Sportsmanship Award.

Since both teams had already qualified, both teams as well as Frank's Wild Cats from Frank's in Trenton advanced to the Western Nebraska APA Ladies 8-Ball Team Championships in McCook to compete for a trip to the $42,000 APA Ladies 8-Ball National Team Championships in Las Vegas.

Team members of No Worries include Colleen McVicker, Sarah Witt, Angela Thomas, Justine Richardson, Trish Clapp, Merna Benson, Linda Junker and Vi Borges.

League MVP awards went to Amanda Wood and Rayeann Solko.

Top Gun award went to Amanda Wood.

The McCook Area APA Pool Leagues offer the casual pool player an opportunity to enjoy some fun and friendly competition with friends, family and co-workers and is open to players of all abilities, men and women, who are at least 18 years old.

Teams with four new members automatically win a Cuetec cue and case valued at $180 for the team organizer or APA polo shirts for all team members.

New members include previous members that have not been active in APA in 2006 or 2007.
