ATWOOD -- Helena Monice Fitts Brickey Carlson, 73, died Thursday (May 29, 2008) at Rawlins County Health Center.
She was born April 19, 1935, in Lee County, Va., to Otto and Mary (Buchanon) Fitts, and moved with her family to Salem, Ind., in 1947.
She met and married Gaynor Carlson in 1956 and moved to Herndon and later Atwood.
She was a full partner and bookkeeper for Carlson Industries, Inc., which she and her husband began in 1970, and which is still operated in Atwood by her son, Vince.
She was a member of several bowling teams; the Lions Club; and the First Christian Church in Atwood.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Eddie Brickey.
Survivors include her husband, Gaynor of Atwood; children, Brenda Brickey Dinger of Jeffersonville Ind., Vince and wife, Gayle Carlson of Atwood, and Carla and husband, Jerry Barber of McPherson, Kan.; two sisters, Audrey and husband, Paul Thompson of Albemarie, N.C., and Sandra Lawrence of Bryan, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Murray of Mulvane, Kan., and Pauline and husband, Hershel Masters of Derby, Kan.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to the First Christian Church of Atwood or the McPherson Museum of McPherson,
Funeral service will be Monday, 10 a.m., at Williams Funeral Home-Chapel in Atwood with the Rev. Keith Reuther of Herndon officiating. Interment will be at the Atwood Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday from 10 a.m to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
