OBERLIN -- Harold George Demmer, 93, died Wednesday (May 28, 2008) at Decatur County Good Samaritan Center.
He was born July 15, 1914, in Finley Township in Decatur County, to George and Rose (Preisinger) Demmer. He grew up on the family farm east of Herndon in the Finley Township and attended rural Green Valley School.
He married Eleanore Demmer and lived on the Demmer farmstead. He worked as a farmer and rancher and owned and operated D&S Grain and Cattle in Traer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Rose Demmer; infant sons, George and Gary; infant brother, Eugene; two sisters, Laura Wolfram and Helen Harshman; son-in-law, Rich A. Grafel; granddaughter, Casey Jo Unger; and four brothers-in-law, Roy Harshman, Floyd B. Bryan, Harry Wolfram and Wallace Bryan.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanore of Oberlin; daughters, Carole and husband, J.R. Unger of Yuma, Colo., and Connie Grafel of Oberlin; sisters-in-law, Elaine Bryan and Laurene Van Otterloo, both of Oberlin; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, 2 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. Royce Leitner officiating. Interment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m., until time of service at the church.
Memorials may be given to Decatur County Good Samaritan Center, Decatur County Rural Fire Department or Decatur County Museum.
