Velma Ruth Warnock died Monday May 26, 2008, at Community Hospital in McCook, Neb., at the age of 83.

She was born Feb. 3, 1925, in Hitchcock County, Neb., the daughter of the late John and Amanda (Wendele) Coyle. She grew up in Hitchcock County and graduated from high school at the Nebraska School of Agriculture at Curtis, Neb.

She began teaching in the rural schools southwest of Wauneta and in the rural schools near Culbertson, Neb. From 1946 to 1948, she worked as a Telephone Operator with North Western Bell Telephone in McCook.

On Dec. 31, 1948, Velma married Paul Eugene Warnock at Stratton, Neb. They made their home on the farm west of Culbertson. For 35 years her husband worked at the Equity Feed Mill in Culbertson and McCook.

For many years, Velma managed the Silver Leaf Motel at Culbertson before they moved back to the Warnock family farm.

Velma was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Velma was preceded in death by her husband. Paul on Dec. 19, 1983; two brothers, Ervin Coyle and wife, Verna and John Francis Coyle and wife Alice; and also Jackie and Tracy Coyle.

She is survived by nephews and nieces, Jerry Coyle of McCook, Patty Coyle Harris of Tucson, Ariz., Mary Alice Coyle Corman and husband, Richard of Edgar, Neb., Donna Coyle Liess and husband, William of Greeley, Colo., and John Francis Coyle Jr. of Arizona; great-nieces and nephews, Neal Coyle, Tracy Bradley, Rebecca "Becky" Coyle Funk and husband, Kenneth, Charles Harris, Angela Corman Millington and husband Michael, Crystal Corman, Jason Liess, Kelly Corman and Sarah Liess.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday May 29, 2008, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson with the Rev. Richard Melano officiating. Interment will be in the Culbertson Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in her name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Chapel in Culbertson from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. today.
