BEAVER CITY -- Velda I. Bieghler, 87, died Thursday (May 15, 2008) at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
She was born Jan. 15, 1921, at Calvert, Kan., to George and Emma (Akins) Roberts. She grew up in Kansas then moved with her family to Red Willow County when she was 19.
On Oct. 31, 1946, she married Dean Bieghler at Norton, Kan. They farmed in the Hendley and Wilsonville areas. In the early 1960s she attended Holdrege Beauty Center in Holdrege and received her cosmetology license. She practiced in Hendley for 20 years and then was a beauty operator at Beaver City Manor for nine years. They moved to Beaver City in 1975. Dean preceded her in death on April 6, 2006.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Hendley for more than 50 years and was a Sunday School teacher fora number of years.
She was preceded in death by parents; her husband, Dean; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Bieghler; five brothers, Fred, Clark, Walter, Ora and Robert; and two sisters, Ferne Eshelman and Wilva Lamb-Hutchins.
Survivors include a son, Rick Bieghler of Beaver City; a daughter, Kay Roberts of Lincoln; a brother, Kenneth "Bud" and wife, Donna Roberts of Bea; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, 1:30 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Beaver City with the Rev. Robert E. Berlie Sr., and Bill Weaver officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery at Beaver City.
Viewing and visitation is Sunday and Monday, 1-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City and Tuesday at the church, prior to services.
