ARAPAHOE -- Helen Elizabeth Esslinger, 81, of Arapahoe, died Thursday (May 15, 2008) at Cambridge Manor in Trenton.
She was born Aug. 18, 1926, near Broken Bow to Fred and Ollie (Palmer) Reed. She attended rural school in Custer County and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1945. She attended Kearney State Teachers College and returned to Custer County to teach at rural schools for 18 years.
On Sept. 10, 1965, she married Donald Boyd. They made their home north of Holbrook until Donald's death in 1972. She then moved to Arapahoe and worked at C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center for 15 years.
She married Raymond Esslinger on May 10, 1975. He died Feb. 9, 1996. In May of 2008, she moved to Cambridge Manor.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe in 1974.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Boyd and Raymond Esslinger; brother, Philip Reed; and sisters, Edna Spritzer and Carol Reed.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Dorothy Esslinger of Arapahoe.
Funeral services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. David Otten officiating. Burial will be in the Arapahoe Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday 9 a.m. - 8 p.m., and Sunday from 1-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to services at the church.
