Joan Mary McCarville of McCook died Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. She was 71 years old.

Joan was born on Aug. 23, 1936, in Springfield, Mass., to Richard Samuel and Sophie Agatha (Gorecki) Trotter. She graduated from Enfield High School, Enfield, Conn., in 1956.

Joan moved to the McCook community in 1963. She continued her education at McCook Community College and graduated with an Associates of Arts Degree. She worked for Sehnert's Bakery and the Agency of Aging and Social Services. She was also owner and operator of JoAn's Ceramics for 20 years. In her free time, she enjoyed making ceramics, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Richard and Sophie Trotter; one granddaughter, Kimberly Joan McCarville; and one brother, Richard Trotter.

Survivors include her son, James McCarville and wife, Janet of Indianola; two daughters, Barbara and husband Tom Woracek of Maxwell and Kathleen Steadman of Kansas; one brother, Robert Trotter and wife, Susan of Enfield, Conn.; two sisters, Nancy and husband, Joseph Spiriti of Chester, Mass., and Janet and husband, Charles Sutton of West Suffield, Conn.; 10 grandchildren, Cynthia Schmitz and Kaitlyn Steadman, Daniel, Samantha, David and Mary McCarville, and Trista and husband Justin Borg, Seth and Shayla Woracek; and two great-granddaughters, Alexus Schmitz and Hailey Farr.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Visitation will be Sunday from 3-5 p.m., and Monday from 9 a.m. -- 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday evening at the funeral home. Friends may send condolences to www.carpenterbreland.com.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 20, 2008, 10:30 a.m., at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
