OGALLALA -- The McCook Bison boys golf team rolled to a four-stroke victory at Thursday's Ogallala Invitational.
"It was a good performance for the Bison golfers in Ogallala," said McCook boys golf coach Rick Haney. "The team of Eric Rippen, Joe Vetrovsky, Bryce Buhr, Adam Kruger and Justin Spector finished first with a team score of 311."
Ogallala and Gering placed second at 315, followed by Scottsbluff 320, Sidney 325, Chadron 327, Valentine 327, Alliance 328, Cozad 343, Chase County-Imperial 350, Gothenburg 365, Hershey 387 and Perkins County 399.
Three Bison players shot in the 70s, led by Vetrovsky with a 74. Rippen fired a 75 and Buhr 77. Kruger finished with an 85 and Spector 88.
It was good to see the team begin to score and play with a championship mentality," Haney said. "We have been working toward districts and we are happy with the results this week. Monday will be another test and one where we will need to keep fucused to repeat the effort at the district meet in Ogallala.
"This meet should set the seed for us to build upon and I know the kids are eager to get back for Monday's competition. Monday will be a real challenge for our team, but a challenge we have been focusing on all season."
H Alma captures Southern Valley tourney -- The Alma boys golf team captured the Southern Valley Invitational Thursday with a 317 score. Cambridge placed second at 322, followed by Ravenna 337.
Southern Valley placed eighth with a 371 score.
Alma's Dillon Kauk claimed first-place individual medalist honors with a 74.
Cambridge's Jackson Johnson and Bo Cribelli placed second and third with 76 and 78. Teammate Catlin Rice placed 10th with an 82.
Southern Valley's Dylan Knuth finished 15th with an 84.
