ARAPAHOE -- Edna Louise Glanzer, 94, of Arapahoe, died Wednesday (May 7, 2008) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
She was born Sept. 8, 1913, southeast of Arapahoe to John G. and Ida C. (Helms) Riepe. She attended country school , seventh and eighth grade Christian Day School and Arapahoe High School, graduating in 1930. She went to Kearney State Teachers College in Kearney and received her teaching degree.
She returned to the Arapahoe area and taught country school for five years. On May 27, 1936, she married Walter E. Glanzer at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe. They lived for two years at Leonardville, Kan., before moving north of Holbrook. In 1970, they moved into Holbrook. In 1990, her husband died. She moved to Sunshine Village in Arapahoe in 2004.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Cambridge from 1958 to 2004 and transferred to Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe. She was active in the Lutheran Quilting Guild, LWML and the Mission Mall. She also was a member of the Holbrook Women's Club and an active volunteer with the Red Cross.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; sisters, Elsa Reese, Hilda Reese and Bertha Glanzer.
Survivors include her sons, Jon and wife, Delores Glanzer of Holbrook, Jerry and wife, Joan Glanzer of North Platte and Gene and wife, Joetta Glanzer of Holbrook; daughter, Janet Glanzer of Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. David Otten officiating. Burial will be in the Arapahoe Cemetery.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to services at the church on Saturday.
