STRATTON -- Michael Aaron Vrbas, 29, died Thursday (April 24, 2008) at his home in Stratton.
He was born May 3, 1978, at Columbus to Marlin J. and Marjorie E. (Higley) Vrbas and grew up in Lincoln, where he attended school at St. John's, Meadowlane, and East High.
He pursued his desire to cook and worked at various restaurants in the Lincoln area before moving to Stratton in 2006, where he opened the "Dry River Saloon." Unfortunately, due to his health, he was forced to close his restaurant.
He recently worked at North Shore Marina where he continued to cook.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Beata Vrbas, his uncle, Bill Brennan and a nephew, Braeden.
Survivors include his parents, Marge Shepard and husband, Ron of Lincoln and Marlin Vrbas and wife, Mimie of Sun Prairie, Wis.; sisters, Amy Luther and husband, Mark of Kilgore and Alison Vrbas of Lincoln; grandparents, Wayne and Lucille Higley of Stratton; five nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles, cousins; and numerous friends in both Lincoln and Stratton.
His family gathered today for a private memorial service at the Vrbas family farm south of Stratton. No public services are planned at this time.
