ARAPAHOE -- Eggert "Eck" Olsen, 88, of Beaver City, formerly of Arapahoe and Hendley area died Sunday (April 20, 2008) at Phelps Memorial Hospital at Holdrege.
He was born Oct. 26, 1919, at Minden to Eggert and Andrea (Erickson) Olsen. He was raised in Minden where he attended school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church at a young age.
He married Patty Geraldine "Jerry" Cooper on Oct 31, 1954, at Hendley. They lived in Hendley where he was a school bus driver and custodian for the Hendley School System. In 1971, they moved to Hastings where he was a carpenter for Mary Lanning Hospital.
He retired in 1984.They moved to Arapahoe in 1986. His wife died Dec. 27, 2002. He then moved to Greenleaf, Kan., in 2006 and to Beaver City Manor in early 2008.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 96 at Arapahoe.
He was preceded in death by parents; sister, Mildred Irene Olson; and wife, Patty "Jerry" Olsen.
Survivors include his son, Bruce Olsen and wife, Sandy of Overgaard, Ariz., three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., at First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe with Rev. Mike Flury officiating. Burial will be in Hendley Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post No. 96 of Arapahoe.
