RED OAK, Iowa -- John Julian (Jack) Abbuhl, 79, formerly of Palisade died Wednesday (April 16, 2008) at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa.
He was born July 25, 1928, in Palisade, Neb., to Ziba and Pearl Arinda (Smoots) Abbuhl. He grew up in Palisade and graduated from Palisade High School in 1945.

Jack continued to farm in the Palisade area until becoming post master of the Palisade post office in 1971. He was employed by the post office until his retirement in 1992. After that time, in 1994, Jack and Rosetta moved to Red Oak to be closer to his son and grandchildren.
He was a member of United Methodist Church, VFW, American Legion and Elks Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Rosetta of Red Oak; son, Bernard and wife, Martha of Red Oak; sister, Janice Corfman of Brea, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Palisade United Methodist Church in Palisade with the Rev. Judy Dye officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Palisade Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home from 9 a.m,. until 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. until time of service at the church. Friends and family may also send condolences at www.carpenterbreland.com online.
A memorial fund is being established in his name.
