ARAPAHOE -- R. Lynn Oliva, 60, died Wednesday (April 9, 2008), from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident one mile north of Arapahoe on Highway 283.
He was born Jan. 19, 1948, at Stockton, Kan., to William and Cleota (Carmichael) Oliva. He was raised in the Stockton area and graduated from Stockton High School in 1966. He served in the National Guard after his graduation.
On Nov. 10, 1968, he married Janet Holen at Bertrand. She preceded him in death in 1984. On June 1, 1985, he married Sharon (Hunter) Gretzschel. He lived in several communities, including Bertrand, Lexington, Overton, Elwood and several Kansas town.
He worked for Tyson Foods in Lexington for 14 years and most recently worked for JWO Trucking in Arapahoe.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
He was preceded in death by his father; his first wife, Janet; a brother, Kenneth; a step-son, Martin; and a grandson, Adrian.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Oliva of Arapahoe; his mother, Cleota Oliva of Stockton; a son, Kurt Oliva and wife, Susan of North Platte; three daughters, Kimberly and husband, George Salpas of Grand Island, Kelly and husband, Emigdio Cuevas of Grand Island and Kerry Kinkade and fiance, Troy Larson of Long Pine; a step-son, Chris Gretzschel of Gaylord, Kan.; a step-daughter, Marenda Gretzschel of Alma; a brother, Richard Oliva of Stockton; a sister, Linda and husband, Chuck Williams of Stockton; 32 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Michael Flury officiating. Graveside services with military honors are at 1 p.m., Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery at Bertrand.
Visitation will be Saturday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m., at Sunday 1-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe.
