HOLDREGE -- Memorial services for Violet M. Aman will be conducted from Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, on Thursday, at 2:30 p.m., with Mr. Mark Wagner, officiating. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.

Violet Mae Aman, 72 years of age, of Atlanta, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2008, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege.

Violet was born Nov. 19, 1935, at Culbertson, the eldest of nine children of Clyde and Mable (Randall) Elwood. She received her education at McCook.

Following her education, Violet was united in marriage to Leon E. Aman at Holdrege on March 20, 1954. The couple made their home Holdrege, where Violet was employed as a waitress at the Hotel Dale, the Cozy Café and the Elks Lodge for many years.

Through the years, Violet enjoyed all the friendship bonds formed with her waitress work. She was also employed at Christian Homes in Holdrege as a nurse's aide and worked in security at Becton-Dickinson prior to her retirement.

Violet was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses and was baptized on Aug. 4, 1957. She loved to spend time with the family camping, fishing, boating and also enjoyed tending to her garden.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Leon of Atlanta; three brothers. Ernie Elwood and his wife, Marilyn of Coalgate, Okla., Butch Elwood and his wife, Mary of Gothenburg and Frank Sierze of North Platte; two sisters, Grace Elmore and her husband, Delwin of Holdrege and Joyce Cooper and her husband, Fred of Wellington, Kan.; brother-in-law, Jack Cole of Myrtle Point, Ore.; sisters-in-law, Pearl McConnell of Holdrege and Bonnie Shepherd and her husband, Richard of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded death by her parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law; one brother, Bill Elwood; two sisters, Pearl Edlefsen and Lucille Elwood in infancy; half-sister, Betty Cole; brother-in-law, Everett Aman; and sister-in-law, Mamie Neilsen.

There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Violet's wish for cremation.

A memorial has been established in her memory.
