ARAPAHOE -- William Junior Anderson, 79, of Elwood died Thursday (April 3, 2008) at Good Samaritan Hospital at Kearney.
He was born Nov. 27, 1928, in the Homerville area, in Gosper County to William L. and Meryl J. (Whistler) Anderson. He attended grammar school at Homerville and graduated from Elwood High School in 1946.
After high school he served in the U.S. Army and was later given a honorary medical discharge. He returned to the family farm and raised livestock including registered Polled Herefords.
On Feb. 27, 1954, he married Martha Louis Mayer. He ran the roller skating rink in Farnam for a few years. In 1993, he suffered a stroke, but still helped on the farm.
He was a member of the St. Germanus Catholic Church of Arapahoe, Heart of Nebraska Hereford Association, Southwest Nebraska Hereford Association and Old Reliable in Grand Island. In 2002, he was awarded outstanding 4-H alumni in Gosper County.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Verne, Clark and Lynn; and sisters, Vera Ziebell and Clara Rosefeld.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Anderson of Elwood; sons, Verne "Tony" and wife, Keri Anderson of Alma, Timothy and wife, Pam Anderson of Kimball and Todd and wife, Shalene Anderson of Elwood; daughters, Tamera and husband, Harlan Grunden of Curtis, Tonna Jo and husband, Ron Drudik of Ord and Trudy and husband, Mike Nolles of Bassett; sister, Garnet Sanders of Cheyenne, Wyo.; sisters-in-law, Mary Graf of Arapahoe and Nada Bell Anderson of Kearney; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Germanus Catholic Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Robert Barnhill officiating. Burial will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m., and Sunday from 1-5 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and Monday prior to services at the church. Rosary will be Sunday 7:30 p.m., at the church.
