CAMBRIDGE -- Juanita L. "Nita" Laverack, 80, died Thursday (March 13, 2008), at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 18, 1927, in Arapahoe, to Lou and Josephine (Dawson) Roepke. She attended and graduated from Arapahoe High School.

She married Vernon Laverack. The couple owned and operated several businesses in Cambridge. During the construction of the Medicine Creek Dam, they ran the City Café on the highway. Later they ran Vernie's baitshop.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Vernon in April of 1983; three brothers; and six sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Lyle of Rapid City, S.D., and Gary of Cambridge; one daughter, Vernita and husband, Greg Saylor of Cambridge; two sisters, Lorena Ems of Arapahoe and and Wanda Meyerhoffer of Hastings; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, 2 p.m., at the UCC First Congregational Church in Cambridge with the Rev. Dana Keener officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Cambridge.

Memorials may be left to the Furnas County Cancer Fund.
