BEAVER CITY -- James A. Stratton, 78, of Beaver City died Thursday (March 13, 2008) at Beaver City Manor.
He was born Feb. 17, 1930, at Hendley to Albert and Delilah (Gentry) Stratton. He attended grade school and high school at Hendley. He graduated from Beaver City High School with the class of 1947. Following graduation, he started farming with his father.
He was drafted into the Marine Corp on Nov. 20, 1951, during the Korean Conflict and was discharged Nov. 5, 1953. After his discharge he returned to the farm.
He married Joyce (Bates) Chesterman on Feb. 7, 1975, at Beaver City. He continued to farm until 1994. He entered the Beaver City Manor in July of 2004.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church at Beaver City and the American Legion Post No. 28 at Beaver City. He was a past member of Beaver City Volunteer Fire Department, Jaycees and Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Lou Hunt on Aug. 22, 2007.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Beaver City; step-son, Pat and wife, Traci Chesterman of Billings, Mont.; step-daughters, Francie and husband, Bob Waite of Moore, Mont., and Katherine and husband, Jim Wolski of Idaho Falls, Idaho; brother-in-law, Willis Hunt of Hastings; 10 step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at Presbyterian Church in Beaver City with the Revs. Ivan Dean, Joyce Dean and Keith Theobald officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Mount Cemetery at Beaver City.
Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m., and Sunday from 1 - 8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City and prior to services on Monday at the church.
Memorials may be given to Good Samaritan Hospice or Beaver City Senior Center and may be left at the funeral home or church.
