HAYES CENTER -- Ruth Virginia Johnson of Hayes Center passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Countryside Care Center in Gordon.
Ruth was born Jan. 9, 1919, in Hayes Center to William and Mary (Bailey) Jeffers. She graduated from Palisade High School in 1937.
On Oct. 22, 1941, she married Earl Lawrence Johnson. Three children were born to this union.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Legion Auxiliary, Harmony Club and Nifty Nipper Club. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, gardening, knitting, quilting, bingo and playing cards.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Earl; infant grandsons, Kyle and Robert Johnson; one brother, Charles Jeffers; and one sister, Mary B. Selph.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Nielsen and husband, Tom of Gordon; son, James and wife, Lesa of Hayes Center; son, Kenny Johnson of St. Paul, Minn; grandchildren, Clint Nielsen, Tammi Ahrens and husband, Heath, Crystal Staley and husband, Justin, Blaine, Alisha and Tristan Johnson, Justin and Jenny Hamilton, Ryan and Erica Johnson and Alyssa and Nick Dotting; and two great-grandchildren, Ashton James Johnson and Claire Mary Ahrens.
Memorials may be given in her name.
Rosary will be tonight at Carpenter Breland Chapel in McCook at 7 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, 1 p.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in rural Hayes Center with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Burial will be in the Hayes Center Cemetery.
