ARAPAHOE -- Ilda Irene Dodson, 101, formerly of Arapahoe, died Saturday (March 8, 2008) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.
She was born Feb. 16, 1907, south of Edison to Clyde and Lillian (Bishop) Fleharty. After attending grade school south of Edison, she drove a horse and buggy for four years to attend Edison High School and graduated with top honors.
She attended Kearney College before becoming a rural school teacher. After many years of rural school teaching, she returned to Hastings College and received her degree. She went on to teach at Deshler for several years. Upon retirement, she worked at Williams Brothers Department Store in Arapahoe.
In January of 1950, she married Harry Dodson at her parent's home south of Arapahoe. They made their home on the Dodson farm north of Arapahoe. Due to health problems she moved to Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook in March of 2006.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Arapahoe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harry Dodson on Oct. 26, 1969, and sister, Madge Hill.
Survivors include her sisters, Esther Farrington of Little Silver, N.J., and Gladys Aldrich and husband, Ray of McCook.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, 1:30 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe, with the Rev. Michael Flury officiating. Interment will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and Wednesday prior to the service at the church.
