OBERLIN -- Thelma Louise Spiers, 90, died Saturday (March 8, 2008) at Decatur County Hospital.
She was born May 14, 1917, in Jewel County, Kan., to John J. and Ray Frances (Coleman) Clawson. She grew up in Kansas, Nebraska and Wyoming.
She married Frank Spiers in Norton, Kan. They lived on a farm near Center Township west of Oberlin and she worked as a homemaker.
She was a member of the Oberlin United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, American Legion Auxiliary and Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; brothers, Dean and Don Clawson; sisters, Pauline and Betty Clawson, Garnett Scott and LuVerne Kleidosty; and great-grandson, Isaac Shaw.
Survivors include her son, Ben and wife, Leone Spiers of Milaca, Minn.; daughters, Violet and husband, Ralph Shaw of Oberlin and Joan and husband, Don Grafel of Herndon; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday 2 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. Doug Hasty officiating. Interment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Wednesday from 8 a.m., until time of service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to Oberlin United Methodist Church.
