Francis L. 'Sam' Farr

OBERLIN -- Francis L. "Sam" Farr, 85, died Thursday (March 6, 2008), at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. He was born Dec. 30, 1922, at Scott City, Kan., to James and Ida (Patton) Farr. He was raised in Scott City and received his education there.

On May 20, 1943, he married Donna Stratton at Scott City. He farmed northeast of Oberlin. He attended the Baptist Church and was a member of the Oberlin American Legion Post.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna; three sons, Steven, Allen and Robert; three brothers, Kenneth, Jim and Doug; five sisters, Murtis Cook, Mattie Matthies, Elizabeth McCormick, Blanche McGuire and Cordie Allan; and one grandson, Adam Rippe.

Survivors include four sons, Bruce and wife, Melba Farr of Scott City, Alfred and wife, Donna Farr of Oxford, Donald Farr of Oberlin and Francis Farr Jr. and wife, Deb of North Platte; four daughters, Carolyn and husband, Merlin Rippe of Oberlin, Marilyn Farr of Oberlin, Linda Brunswick of McCook and Glenda Chase and Jack Brown of Oberlin; a brother, Clellan Farr of Hayesville, Kan.; a sister, Lena Russell of Garden City, Kan.; 17 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Revs. Bill Duncan and Gene Gee officiating. Interment will be at the Oberlin Cemetery.

Visitation is Sunday, 1-8 p.m., and beginning at 8 a.m. Monday until the time of the service.

Memorials are being accepted.
