Feb. 3, 1939 - March 2, 2008
ARNOLD -- Larry "John" D. Larreau, 69, died Sunday (March 2, 2008) at Callaway Hospital.
Larry was born Feb. 3, 1939, in Thedford to Marie Martha Williams and Otis Larreau. He grew up in Arnold, graduating from Arnold High School in 1956.
Larry then went to Kearney State College and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English with a minor in French and Mathematics in 1961. He student taught at Harvard and Arnold.
After student teaching, he went back to teach in Harvard for two years, Grand Island Senior High for eight years, Trenton for one and a half years and finished his career in Stratton, where he retired in 1992.
After retirement, he moved back to Arnold to be closer to his family and friends.
He spent his summers pumping gravel and working in construction. His green thumb provided the family with fresh produce and he also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He enjoyed drives in the country, visiting with friends and family, listening to music, dancing, playing pool, reading and any other activities that he could find to keep him busy. His sharp wit and sense of humor kept everyone he met on their toes.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Sonjia and Pauline and brother, Wesley.
Survivors include daughters, Laura Larreau of Hastings, Carolyn Larreau of Campbell and Kim Larreau of Greeley, Colo.; five grandchildren, Cassie, Alex, Chance, Carmen and Garret; siblings, Joy Hill of Texas, Betty Searcey of Texas, Jean Kirwin of Imperial, Connie Weinman of Arnold and LeLand Larreau of Hershey.
Graveside services will be Saturday, 2:30 p.m., at the Arnold Cemetery with the Rev. Jennings officiating.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday at Arnold funeral home in Arnold.
