April 30, 1930 - Feb. 19, 2008

Harvey William Hofman was taken from us suddenly on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, to his heavenly home. He was 77 years old.

Harvey was born on April 30, 1930, in Red Willow County to William and Henreietta ((Kisker) Hofman. He attended St. John's Parochial School through eighth grade. He graduated from McCook High School in 1948. Harvey served in the Nebraska National Guard for several years.

On Feb. 28, 1954, he was united in marriage to Ramona M. Hinz in Hastings. To this union three children were born. They made their home on the family farm southwest of Indianola where he was living at the time of his death. Harvey's love of farming took a backseat only to his love of God, family and friends.

Harvey was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church of rural McCook. He faithfully served in many church organizations. He was also a member of various farm organizations and served on the rural school board. He gave God the glory for all of the accomplishments in his life.

Harvey was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. It was an honor knowing him and having him in our lives. He will be missed by all.

Preceding him in death were his parents, William and Henrietta Hofman; one brother, Dean Hofman; nephew, Doug Osler; and brother-in-law, Leonard Osler.

Survivors include his wife of almost 54 years, Ramona Hofman of Indianola; son, Brent Hofman and wife, Deb of Indianola; two daughters, Dr. Tamara and husband, Dr. Todd Hlavaty of North Platte and Peggy and husband, Dr. Cal Stoltenberg of Norman, Okla.; one sister, Joann and husband, Paul Martin of McCook; and seven grandchildren, Braden (Julia), Ilea, and Kara Stoltenberg, Tessa and Troy Hlavaty and Drew and Dylan Hofman.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Lutheran Hour or donor's choice.

Visitation is today and Friday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may go online at www.carpenterbreland.com to extend condolences.

A celebration of Harvey's life will be Saturday, 11 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural McCook, with Pastor Kevin Schnakenberg officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of the arrangements.
