OBERLIN -- Alvina Marie Unger, 99, died Monday (Feb. 4, 2008), at Decatur County Good Samaritan Center.
She was born Nov. 19, 1908, in Augusta, Mo., to Fritz and Olinda (Knoernschild) Fuhr. She grew up in Augusta and attended Christ Lutheran School and August High School, graduating in 1926.
On Oct. 26, 1931, she married Anton "Tony" Unger in Augusta, Colo. She lived in the Logan Township in Decatur County and worked as a homemaker. She later moved to Oberlin.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, L.W.M.L., Progressive Homemakers Unit and Decatur County Extension Council.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fritz and Olinda Fuhr; husband, Tony on Feb. 3, 1994; and a sister, Stella Hellwege.
Survivors include her sons, Duane and wife, Lois Unger of Colby, Kan., and Ralph and wife, Norma Unger of Oberlin; daughter, Shirley and husband, Robert Gaede of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Hertha Kelley of St. Francis; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and five great-step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 11 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oberlin, with the Revs. Allen D. Hellwege and Rick Langness officiating. Interment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 8 a.m. - 7 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin and Saturday from 8 a.m., until time of service.
Memorials may be given to the church for the KNGN Radio Endowment, Decatur County Good Samaritan Center or charity of donor's choice.
