TORRINGTON, Wyo. -- Kenneth J. Wasia, 92, died Monday (Jan. 28, 2008) at Community Hospital due to complications from pneumonia.
He was born June 20, 1915, in St. Ann to Andrew and Johanna (Pick) Wasia. He grew up on the family farm south of McCook. In his youth, he was an amateur boxer. In 1939, he and his brother moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho to work as farm hands.
He moved back to McCook where he married Freda Schultz on Oct. 15, 1942. He farmed his whole life.
In 1980, he moved off the irrigated farm south of McCook and built their home in Indianola. He continued dry land farming north of Danbury until he retired in 1989.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Freda; sons, Vince and wife, Patricia Wasia of San Antonio, Texas, Gene and wife, Cathy Wasia of Billings, Mont., and Bruce and wife, Vicky Wasia of McCook; daughter, Colleen and husband, Larry Ramsey of New Braunfels, Texas; sisters, Andella Bahl, Loretta Lebo and Mary Howerter; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life is planned for a later date.
