SHELTON -- Zona Belle Volgamore, 97, of Kearney and formerly of Beaver City, died Monday (Jan. 28, 2008) at Barb's Care Home in Shelton.
She was born July 18, 1910, southeast of Beaver City in Furnas County, to James Adam and Elviria Alice (Vining) McCarty. She grew up in the Richmond Precinct area and attended country school at District 2, McCarty School. She also attended high school in Beaver City.
On June 20, 1928, she married Earl Ernest Volgamore at Norton, Kan. They farmed for 50 years on their farmstead southeast of Beaver City.
In 1976, they built a new home in Beaver City and made the move to town. She live with her daughter, Arlene and son-in-law, Jim Patsios in Kearney from May of 2002, until August of 2007.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl in April 1990; sisters, Faye Beins, Elsie Cozad, Lucy Leonard, Grace Burden and Margie McCarty; brothers, Glen McCarty, Cecil McCarty and Emery McCarty; grandson, Darcy Coffey; and great-grandson, Zane Pebeck.
Survivors include her daughters, Arlene and husband, Jim Patsios of Kearney, Karen and husband, Cletus Coffey of Beaver City, Carol and husband, Vern Christensen of Minden; son, Ervin and wife, Shirley Volgamore of Beaver City; sister, Eda Jean Dunn of Longmont, Colo.; and sisters-in-law, Elsie McCarty of Minden and Zola Thomas of Cambrey, Ore.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday at O'Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home in Kearney with the Rev. Thayne Moore officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m., in the Maple Creek Cemetery at Precept.
Visitation is today from 5-7 p.m., at the funeral home.
