Rawlins County boys, girls survive against Hoxie squads
ATWOOD -- Rawlins County's boys and girls basketball teams came away with two close wins against Hoxie Tuesday night.
The Atwood girls won a tight 60-59 game with Hoxie.
The Buffaloes led the game into the first half 30-23, before Hoxie pulled ahead in the third leading 44-41.
Rawlins County fire back in the fourth to pull out the win and increasing their record to 13-2.
Sara Miller posted 19 points for the Buffaloes win. Laura Wolters added up 17 and Macy Migchelbrink had 14.
Miller had 7 two-points shots, Wolters had 6 and Migchelbrink had 4.
Both Wolters and Migchelbrink had 1 three-point shots. Wolters was also 2 for 2 in free throws along with Sydney Carlson.
Kylena Hager led Hoxie's girls with 19 points. Kendra Spresser followed with 13 and Bailey Ochs and Darra Stithem joined in with10.
Rawlins County's boys also played a close game. The Buffaloes won 62-51 over Hoxie and are now 11-4.
Hoxie led the game in the first half 30-27. The Buffaloes pulled ahead in the third to take the win.
Drew Basgall put in 18 points for the win.
Elijah Kastens added in 16, Marcus Cahoj had 12 and Jackson Grafel had 10.
Cahoj went 2 for 2 in free throws and Kastens had 4 three-point shots.
Basgall had 6 two-pointers and Grafel and Cahoj both had 5.
Matt Weis led Hoxie with 20 points. Pat Eland followed with 8 and Taylor Rall had 7.
The Rawlins County girls, ranked sixth in Class 2A in the latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association poll and ninth by the Hutchinson News, improvedtheir record to 13-2.
The Rawlins County boys improved to 11-4.

fall to Phillipsburg
SOUTHERN VALLEY -- Southern Valley's girls and boys fell to Phillipsburg's basketball teams Tuesday.
The Eagles came up short in the boys game 63-51 and fell in the girls game 70-30 to Phillipsburg.
Fabian Pena totaled 16 points for Southern Valley's boys.
Pena also had 5 two-points shots and was 6 for 6 in free throws. Jared Maruhn added in 14 points had 6 two points shots.
Michael Hoxmeier led in free throws going 2 for 2 and Zach Nielsen had the only three-pointer.
Cassie Brooks led the Eagles in scoring with 12 points. Amy Bowers led in rebounds with 4 and Hennessey Hogeland 3.
Brooks led in assists with 2 and had 2 steals along with Katey Glur and Mattie Sadd.

MAYWOOD -- Maywood's girls edged Hitchcock County 47-39 Tuesday.
"We really played tenacious defense tonight," said Tigers' coach Kim Stengel. "We still need to hit from the free throw line, but this win will give us the confidence to continue playing well through the season."
Staci Koester led the Tigers to the win with 14 points. Brooke Koester put in 9 points and Susan Koester had 6.
Lexey Lewis led the Falcons with 15 points. Lisa Faimon added 12 and Megan Cox 7.
Ashley Garner had 2 points and 8 rebounds. Faimon and Amanda Leggott each had 5 rebounds.
Lewis had 3 steals and 2 assists.

NORTH PLATTE -- Eustis-Farnam's boys started the first round of the CPC tournament in North Platte Tuesday.
The Knights. who are now 10-6, were pushed by Arnold 64-36.
"This game was a team win as every player on the roster contributed," said Knights coach Bobby Johnson.
"Ten players were able to score as the bench came through the good support. The statistics also show how many players are giving this team a solid effort."
Drew Wetovick put in 18 points and 9 rebounds to lead the Knights to the win. Weston Keller and Derek Williams teamed up with 11.
Keller also had 5 steals and 2 rebounds and Williams had 3 rebounds and 3 steals.
