ARAPAHOE -- Douglas R. Long, 60, of Holbrook, died Monday (Jan. 28, 2008) at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 15, 1947, at Oxford to Derryl R. and Fae L. (Mues) Long. He graduated from Holbrook High School in Holbrook in 1965.

He graduated from McCook Community College and attended University of Nebraska at Lincoln and Kearney State College in Kearney.

He married Sandy Niemeier on Jan. 25, 1969, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe. They made their home in Holbrook and opened D & D Services Station in Holbrook in October of 1971 and ran the business successfully for 36 years.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Arapahoe, the Holbrook Volunteer Fire Department, Holbrook School Board and was a softball coach.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy Long of Holbrook; mother, Fae Long of Arapahoe; sons, Brian Long of Omaha, Geoff and wife, Sharla Long of Holbrook and Pat and wife, Sandy Long of Upland; brothers, Duane and wife, Kathy Long of Holdrege, David and wife, Linda Long of Norton, Kan., Richard and wife, Lori Long of Kearney, Dale Long of Holbrook and Dennis and wife, Janice Long of Lincoln; sister, Rosemary and husband, Kevin Johnson of Clive, Iowa; and three grandchildren.

Memorial services will be Thursday, 2 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe, with the Rev. David Otten officiating. Inurnment will be at the Holbrook Cemetery.
