Steve Lambert, age 48, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008 at Hillcrest Nursing Home.

He was born Sept. 5, 1959, at Renton, Wash., to Gary and Donna (England) Lambert. He enjoyed most sports. He played football for McCook High School and graduated in 1977. He attended one year at Kearney State playing football on the freshman team.

He was an Eagle Scout who was able to enjoy "50 miles a float" into Canada; and two National Jamborees, the first at Miner Park, Pa., and second at Fort A.P. Hill, W. Va. Steve and his Dad went on a special climbing trip to Cimmeron, N.M., with the troop from McCook. He spent a lot of time fishing, camping and hunting. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his kids.

Steve worked 24 years for Burlington/Santa Fe as a welder/grinder operator until forced to retire due to degenerative bone disease and his job caused a lot of pain.

Preceding Steve in death were both sets of grandparents, I.W. Lambert and Clara, Leonard England and Ida Winifred; step-son, Robert Hammond.

Survivors include parents, Gary and Donna Lambert; brother, Doug Lambert and wife, Stephanie; one nephew, three nieces, two grandnieces; aunts and uncles, Don and Myrna Musgrave of Indianola, Gerald and Sharon England of Mathias, Texas, Bill and Jean Lambert of Conifer, Colo.; wife, Carol of McCook; children, Anna Lambert, step-children, Renae Stuck, Dustin Stuck; grandchildren, Jackson Bybee and Mason Kennedy, Joslyn and Jaylee Hammond; and his unborn grandson.

Memorials may be given to Boy Scouts of America, Overland Council or McCook Christian Church.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at 11 a.m. at McCook Christian Church with Jerry Beckenhauer and Jason Van Pelt officiating. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment will follow at a later date.

Visitation will be Sunday, 4-8 p.m. and Monday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m.
