Sept. 18, 1914 - Jan. 16, 2008

Adela Magdalena Kisker entered the church triumphant on Wednesday (Jan. 16, 2008), at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, at the age of 93.

She was born Sept. 18, 1914, on a farm north of Marion, where she also grew up. Adela was the daughter of Jacob and Martha (Boll) Leibbrandt.

Adela was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church at Ash Creek. She graduated from rural school north of Marion.

On May 7, 1935, Adela married William H. Kisker at St. John's Lutheran Church. They farmed southeast of McCook for 24 years. Her husband preceded her in death on April 18, 1960. Adela and her son, Dennis continued farming until 1976, when she moved to McCook.

At the age of 64, she started working at the McCook Junior High School in the kitchen. Five years later, she worked at Degroff's Department Store as an alterationist. She retired from that job at the age of 76.

She loved her flowers and her gardening, especially her roses. Her love of sewing led her to make many quilts for Lutheran Family Services and the Pantry in McCook.

Basically Adela loved to work. She also loved to walk. She was an inspiration to all who wish they could age as beautifully as she did. We celebrate her 92 years of a really healthy life.

She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church and the Ladies Guild.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, and one brother, Samuel Leibbrandt.

Adela is survived by one daughter, Joyce Axelson and husband Bill of Wheatridge, Colo.; one son, Dennis Kisker and wife, Janice of McCook; three grandsons, Kurt Kisker and wife, Linnette, Brandon Kisker and Bill Axelson and wife, Kelly McCall; one granddaughter, Dawn Axelson; four great-grandchildren, Will, Kassie, Trent and Adam Kisker; three step-great-grandsons, Kevin, Kurtis and Kristopher McCall; one sister, Leona Breitling; very special friend, Carol Borgman; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ash Creek, with the Rev. Kevin Schnakenberg officiating. Interment will be in the Ash Creek Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in her name and friends may call Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook today until 9 p.m.

Herrmann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
