Holbrook firefighter Doug Long said that Holbrook's fire department was aided throughout the night Wednesday and with two flare-ups during the day by firefighters and equipment from Cambridge and Arapahoe.
No estimate of damages was available.
The second fire, about 2 a.m. today, was in a vacant house in Cambridge. Cambridge Fire Chief J.P. Trumball and a state fire marshall from Minden were investigating the cause of that fire this morning.
Trumball said he immediately called for mutual aid from Bartley, Wilsonville and the Holbrook-Arapahoe-Edison department to help fight the structure fire reported to the sheriff department's dispatch center in Beaver City.
Trumball said that fire damaged the back of the house, and there is smoke and water damage throughout.
It was extremely uncomfortable fighting fire in single-digit temperatures, and Trumball said one nozzle froze up before firefighters could use it.
The area around the house became treacherous, as the water froze as soon as it hit the ground, he said.
