ARAPAHOE -- Morris Jennings Ems, 89, of Arapahoe died Monday (Jan. 14, 2008), at C. A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe.
He was born March 11, 1918, at York to Robert and Irene (Miller) Ems. He attended school in Arapahoe and graduated in 1936 from Arapahoe High School.
He married Lorena Roepke on July 30, 1938, at Arapahoe. They made their home in Arapahoe. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944-1946, during World War II. After his service time, he returned to Arapahoe and started Mosbarger-Ems Construction Company. His company worked on highway construction and other land developing projects in the area.
He also co-owned Weverka Sand and Gravel Company for many years and owned and worked on his farm.
He served as Furnas County Commissioner, Arapahoe City Councilman and was an Arapahoe School Board Member.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, American Legion Post No. 96 and VFW, all of Arapahoe. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge in McCook.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry Ems; four brothers, Orris, Victor, Harold "Jack" and Duane Ems; and one sister, Marjory Weber.
Survivors include his wife, Lorena Ems of Arapahoe; son, Donald and wife, Rhonda Ems of Mesa, Ariz.; three daughters, Donna and husband, Rick Wolzen of Lincoln, Myrna Ems of Lincoln and Linda Fritz of Lincoln; two brothers, Kenneth Ems of Tacoma, Wash., and Richard and wife, Audrey Ems of Muncie, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 1:30 p.m., at First United Methodist Church of Arapahoe, with the Rev. Michael Flury officiating. Interment will be in the Arapahoe Cemetery with military rites provided by American Legion Post No. 96 of Arapahoe. and Burtons Bend VFW Post No. 9357.
Visitation will be Friday from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to services at the church on Saturday.
