BELLEVILLE, Kan. -- Iolene Marie (Hickert) Levendofsky, 80, died Sunday (Dec. 30, 2007) at the Belleville Hospital.
She was born on a farm southeast of Jennings, Kan., July 3, 1927, to Albert and Amanda (Gilleece) Hickert. She graduated from country grade school southeast of Jennings and to high school at Decatur County High School in Oberlin, graduating in 1945. She went to nurses training at Concordia, Kan., graduating in 1948, as a Registered Nurse. She worked at St. Catherine's Hospital in McCook, until she married Francis Levendofsky on Oct. 20, 1948, at St. Joseph's Church in New Almelo, Kan. They lived on a dairy farm northwest of Belleville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three infant sons, Michael, Daniel and Edward; a grandson; infant granddaughter; three brothers, James, William and Robert; and two sisters, Carolyn Hickert and Bertilla Conroy.
Survivors include her husband, Francis of Belleville; two sons, William "Bill" of Delphos, Kan., and Frederick "Fred" of Republic, Kan.; nine daughters, Ronda Blecha of Munden, Kan., Rita LeDuc of Greenleaf, Kan., Mary Jo Wurtz of Clifton, Kan., Michelle Larkins of Republic, Kan., Brenda Ritterling of Byron, Sherie Mahin of Courtland, Kan., Geri Larson of Madera, Calif., Sheila Levendofsky of Greenleaf, Kan., and Carleen Nordell of Concordia, Kan.; a brother, Don Hickert of Indianola; five sisters, Cecelia Kotschwar of McCook, Hilaria Huff of Denver, Colo., Wilma Farrell of Mesa, Ariz., Donna Roth of Marion, Iowa and Marilyn Otter of New Almelo, Kan.; 35 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Wednesday at St. Edwards Catholic Church with Fathers Cornelius Khine and Joe Popelka as Celebrants. Burial took place in St. Josaphats Cemetery in Belleville.
