ARVADA, Colo. -- Mary Ellen Real Smith, 84, died Dec. 1, 2007, in Arvada, Colo., after a long battle with cancer.
She was born Dec. 2, 1922, in Edgar, to John E. Real and Amy Z. Real-Mack. She later moved to McCook with her family.
In 1940, she moved to Denver where she worked at National Biscuit Company. She also was a volunteer for The Association of Senior Citizens for many years. She worked at Gaetano's Restaurant in North Denver until her retirement in 1992.
In May 1947, she was married to James Aubri Smith. He preceded her in death, Dec. 12, 1960.
Her parents and four brothers preceded her in death.
She is survived by her children, Mark Smith and Debbie Smith Limon, both of Denver and a granddaughter. Local survivors include Cathy Davis of McCook, Penny Walter of Stratton, Deseree Pettera of McCook, Leigh J. Real of McCook and Becky Decker also of McCook.
It was her desire to be cremated and to have her ashes scattered over the St. Mary Glacier at a later time.
