Ruth M. Childers

CAMBRIDGE -- Ruth M. Childers, 90, died Tuesday (Jan. 1, 2008) at the Tri Valley Health Systems Cambridge Manor.
She was born in Doniphan on Oct. 30, 1917, to Eddie W. and Clara (Fry) Harshfield. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1935, then attended Kearney State Teachers College receiving her teaching certificate. She taught in rural schools at the Blue Top and Mount Zion country schools.
She was married to Loren Childers on Sept. 3, 1940. She was later employed by the Cambridge Hospital and the Cambridge Public Schools as a cook. She retired from the Cambridge Schools in 1978.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Dennis and a brother, Harold.
She is survived by her daughter, Lora Miller of Cambridge; son, Floyd and wife, Tammy of Gothenburg; four sisters, Lois Carpenter of Pine Bluffs, Wyo., Norma Riepe of Casper, Wyo., Joyce Kelly of Lincoln and Velma Ogorzolka of Holdrege; one brother, Charles Harshfield of Burwell; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside inurnment is planned for later in the spring.
Memorials may be left in her name at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge or to the Butler Memorial Library in Cambridge.
