TRENTON -- Lowell James Colling died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at Community Hospital in McCook, at the age of 85.

He was born Nov. 5, 1922, in Indianola, the son of the late Leo James and Harriet Lela (Hume) Colling. He grew up near Indianola and graduated from Indianola High School in 1942.

On March 10, 1943, he was inducted into the U. S. Army. He served overseas in the European Theater in World War II. Lowell was honorably discharged March 26, 1946. While serving in the Army he received the American Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

On April 13, 1947, Lowell married Elizabeth Rose Marquart in Oberlin. They spent 58 wonderful years together raising a family. They worked together for several years operating their own family owned business, the Soo Paw Cafe and Service Station in Trenton.

He enjoyed golfing and was an avid Husker sports fan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth on March 22, 2006, his parents and three sisters, Harriet Filz, Helen Swaim and Mary Ann (Aman, Cantrell) Schlotthauer.

Lowell is survived by one son, Joseph Colling and wife, Jennifer of Kearney; two daughters, Cathy Barger and husband, James of Trenton and Julie Wickizer and husband, Jack of Fremont; nine grandchildren, Christian Colling and wife, Melinda of Loveland, Colo., Megan Colling of Kearney, Troy Barger and wife, Lori of Middletown, Ohio, Scott Barger and wife, Tyra of McCook, Jeffery Barger of Trenton, Elizabeth Klein and husband, Steven of Elwood, Eric Wickizer of Lincoln, Dustin Wickizer of Tilden, Cindy Wragge and husband, Trent of Hooper; six great-grandchildren, Christian Colling of Loveland, Colo., Kyson Barger of McCook, Anna, Mary and Franklin Wickizer of Lincoln and Kinleigh Wragge of Hooper; one sister, Marjorie Mathews and one brother, Leslie Colling and wife, June, all of Austin Minn.; nieces; nephews; and friends.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Saturday at the Church of God in Trenton, with the Rev. Johnny Walker officiating. Interment will be in the Trenton Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in his name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home in Trenton.

The family will be receiving friends Friday from 5-7 p.m., at the funeral home.
