ATWOOD - Norma Emma Butcher, 87, formerly of Bird City, died Tuesday (Dec. 25, 2007) at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Atwood.
She was born April 28, 1920, at Eureka, S.D., to George and Pauline Raile. She was baptized as an infant and later affirmed her Christian faith in German Confirmation in Bowdle, S.D. She grew up on a farm in Eureka, where she attended rural high school and German Catechism schooling.
She was united in marriage to Joseph W. LeMar in Reno, Nev., and was left a widow in 1964, and later married Andrew L. Butcher in 1968. They were former residents of Reno, Nev., and then moved to St. Francis in July 1971, where he died in 1972. She later moved to Bird City in 1974.
She was a homemaker and was a grocery checker and also a food waitress.
She was a past member of the Salem Lutheran Church in St. Francis then transferred to St. John's Lutheran Church in Bird City where she was a member of W.E.L.C.A. and Ruth Circle.
She was also a member of the Tri-State Antique Auto Club; Mother's Circle; Home Aide and Senior Center; AAA Automobile Club; AARP Chapter 1739 St. Francis; and a lifetime member of VFW Auxiliary Post No. 1528; the Disabled Veterans of America; and the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 352.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Pauline Raile; husbands, Joseph LeMar and Andrew Butcher; son, Burton LeMar; one brother, Ruben Raile; and one sister, Laura Jones.
Survivors include her son, Earl LeMar and wife, Rosalie of San Jose, Calif.; one sister, Irene Stoecker and husband, Milton of Aberdeen, S.D.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.
Funeral Services were today at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bird City with the Rev. Charlotte Strecker-Baseler officiating. Interment followed at the St. Francis Cemetery.
