FORT CARSON, Colo. -- The McCook Community College women's basketball team ended the first semester on a winning note by posting a 97-88 victory over Fort Carson, Colo., Saturday at Fort Carson.

Bridgette Riddick led four MCC players in double figures with 24 points. Kendra Knight scored 19, Shanice Johnson 18, and Ashley Foe 13.

Knight pulled down 12 rebounds, Johnson 10 and Ali Brickley 6.

MCC led at halftime 44-37 and outscored Fort Carson 53-51 in the second half to improved its record to 4-8.

"With having almost 14 days off from our last game and just finishing up with finals we knew this was going to be a battle," said MCC assistant women's basketball coach Nicholas Hobbs.

"We jumped out to a 10-2 lead but then Fort Carson was right back fighting with us. At one point in the game we were up 14 points. Over all this was a great way to finish up 2007."

The next game for the MCC women is Jan. 3 at Salina, Kan., against Brown Mackie College.

MCC plays the Hastings College junior varsity Jan. 6, Western Nebraska Jan. 9 and Eastern Wyoming College Jan. 12 on the road.

The next home game will be Jan. 15 against Southeast CC-Beatrice at 5 p.m.
