WILSONVILLE -- Darrel D. Palmer, 80, died Saturday (Dec. 15, 2007), at the Avera St. Anthony Hospital in O'Neill.
He was born June 11, 1927, near Wilsonville, to Earl E. and Lizzie Belle (Bates) Palmer. He country school and later attended the Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis.
On June 27, 1952, he married June ten Bensel in Wilsonville. He farmed on the original family farmstead all his life and joined the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of the Wilsonville Christian Church for more than 50 years where he served as a deacon.
He was active in the VFW Post 7719 of Lebanon, and attended all of his Korean Veteran's reunions.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Betty Jean and Ilah Marie and her husband, Leroy Potter; one infant brother, Jackie; and one brother-in-law: Gail Kasson.
Survivors include his wife, June of Wilsonville; five children, Doug and wife, Mary of Wilsonville, Dennis of Lake Elsinore, Calif., Todd and wife, Jacqueline of Joplin, Mo., Kaye and husband, Joel Coburn of Atchison and Timothy of McCook; three sisters, Gail and husband, Harold Fleider of Cambridge, Rosalie and husband, Bennie Desmond Sr. of McCook and Joan and husband, Jerry Bennett of Fredricksburg, Texas; five grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at the United Christian -- Baptist Church in Wilsonville with Keith Theobald officiating. Interment will be in the Wilsonville Cemetery.
Memorials may be left in his name to either the VFW Post No. 7719 or the United Christian-Baptist Church of Wilsonville.
