OBERLIN -- Dale A. Votapka, 73, died Friday (Nov. 23, 2007) at Oberlin.
He was born June 20, 1934, in Oberlin, to Guy and Helen (Vermillion) Votapka. He grew up in Oberlin and attended Oberlin Grade School and Decatur County High School, graduating in 1952. He then attended Fort Hays State in Hays, Kan., for two years.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He returned to Oberlin and married Cheryl Ann Koehler on Aug. 8, 1965. He worked as a farmer.
He was a member of Kansas Wrestling Hall of Fame and United Church of Oberlin.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers, John Neil and Chuck Votapka and infant sister, Mary Louise Votapka.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl of Oberlin; daughters, Beth and Chris Sluder of Bethany, Mo., Drs. Pam and Erick Huerter of Lawrence, Kan., Luanne Rupe and fiance, Rick Rowlison of Hays. Kan., and Pauline and Ahti Rossi of Kirkkonummi, Finland; brother, Howard and wife, Janette Votapka of Oberlin; sisters, Faye Meitl and Norma Anderson of Oberlin; sisters-in-law, Joy Votapka and Jackie Votapka; and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, 11 a.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. Judy Stricker officiating. Interment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m., and Tuesday from 8 a.m., until time of service.
Memorials may be given to Decatur County Amusement Authority or Decatur County Museum.
