OBERLIN -- Amy Portschy of Herndon, Kan., and Erik Schlimmer of Volga, S.D., were united in marriage July 14, 2007, at the United Methodist Church in Oberlin, with the Revs. Doug Hasty, Dennis Brown and Gary Brethour officiating.

Parents of the couple are Leon and Marita Portschy of Herndon and Leland and Virginia Schlimmer.

Grandparents of the bride are the late Clarence and Anna Mae Ketterl and the late Charles and Virginia Portschy.

Grandparents of the bridegroom are the late Leonard and Genevieve Tenning and the late Fred and Ida Schlimmer.

Maid of honor was April Sattler, sister of the bride, of Norton, Kan., Bridesmaides were Carla Taylor of Grant, Brandi Smith of Hays, Kan., and Jeanne Ahlquist of Hugoton, Kan.

Best man was Mark Hoogwerf of Palmetto, Fla. Bridegroomsmen were Leland Owen, Eric Bothun and Brian Melchert, all of Volga.

The flower girl was Emilee Owen of Volga. Ring bearer was Tate Smith, cousin of the bride, of Buhler, Kan. Candlighters were Ashley Henderschiedt, niece of bridegroom, of Brookings, S.D., and Jessica Riener, cousin of bride of Herndon, Kan.

Ushers were Paul Schlimmer, brother of bridegroom, of Watertown, S.D., John Riener, cousin of bride, of Herndon, David Satter, brother-in-law of bride, of Norton, Tom VanderWal of Volga and Nathan Taylor and Clifton Taylor, both of Grant.

The organist was Charlotte Smith, aunt of bride, of Buhler.

The reception was at the Gateway in Oberlin. Guestbook attendants were Cylee Liess of McCook and Sydney Grafel, cousins of bride, of Oberlin.

Host couples were Joe and Jean Ann Leitner, uncle and aunt of bride, of Herndon, and Dale and Heidi Henderschiedt, brother-in-law and sister of bridegroom, of Brookings.

The bride received her Bachelor of Science degree from Fort Hays State University in 2004 and is a middle school science teacher at Sioux Valley in Volga.

The bridegroom received his Associate of Science degree from South Dakota State University in 1999 and farms in Volga.

After a honeymoon in Moline, Ill.. and Ashland, Wis., the couple resides in Volga.
