CAMBRIDGE -- Carrie Berniece Max, 98, died Wednesday (Nov. 21, 2007), at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital

She was born on Nov. 28, 1908 to John Henry and Melissa J. (Mulford) Lawson in Frontier County about 12 miles north of Cambridge .

She attended Mount Zion grade school in Frontier County. She attended Cambridge High School for 2 years, then moved to Bartley. She graduated from Bartley High School with the Class of 1927, and taught school for two years in rural school in Frontier County north of Bartley.

On Nov. 28, 1929 she married Jacob Oscar Ferdinand Max in McCook. He preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 1981. They made their home on the family farm that Jacob was born on, southeast of Stockville. She moved to Cambridge in 1990, in 2003 she moved to Curtis to the Senior Living Choices.

She was baptized at the Trinity United Methodist Church and belonged to the Church Circle. She was a member of the Stockville woman's Club and the Orafino Community Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jacob; a son, Alva in 2002; six brothers, Clifford, Elvert, Howard, Frank, Lloyd and Jimmie; two sisters, Clesta Lawson and Etta Nelms; two sisters-in-law, Nettie Lawson and Leona Lawson; and a brother-in-law, Vernie Nelms.

Survivors include two daughters, Twila and husband, James Johnson of Stockville, and LaVonne and husband, Joe Hinton of Willow, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Carol Max of Cambridge; two sisters-in-law, May Lawson of Cambridge and Dara Lawson of Joshua Tree, Calif; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Rowe officiating. Interment will be in the Bartley Cemetery in Bartley.

Memorial may be left in her name at the mortuary.
