R. Marie Hummel died Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, at the age of 89.

She was born Feb. 14, 1918, on the family farm at Indianola, the daughter of the late Edward and Rose (Haag) Kircher. She grew up at Indianola and graduated from Red Willow High School in 1934.

On Aug. 10, 1940, Marie married George Gail Hummel at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Indianola. They spent their married life farming and ranching south of Bartley.

Following the death of her husband, George on June 30, 1986, Marie moved to Indianola where she resided for over 21 years.

She was a member of the Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary and was a volunteer helper with the bloodmobile and worked in the Good Friend Program of Republican Valley School.

Marie is survived by two daughters, Jean Ellis and husband, William of Bartley and Rozanne Scott of Indianola; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Kircher of Oberlin; relatives; and friends.

Rosary will be 7 p.m., this evening at Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with Rev. Lawrence Ejiofo officiating.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m., Tuesday with Rev. Thomas McGuire officiating. Interment will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery in Indianola.

Memorials may be given in her name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook until 9 p.m., this evening.
