ARAPAHOE -- Clifford D. "Mose" Riepe, 76, formerly of Arapahoe, died Monday (Nov. 12, 2007) at the Veterans' Home in Grand Island.
He was born April 4, 1931, south of Arapahoe to George B. and Thelma (Fletcher) Riepe. He attended Arapahoe High School through the 11th grade, then enlisted in the Navy on May 9, 1950. He served on the U.S.S. George Clymer out of Coronado, Calif. He was a seaman for three years and 10 months. He served time in Korea and Japan during the Korean War. He was discharged on March 8, 1954.
He worked in Oklahoma in the oil fields, before returning to Arapahoe to work for Jack Bellamy and farm for his parents. He then worked hauling sand and gravel for his parents at Riepe Sand and Gravel. In 1988, he moved to the Veterans' Home in Grand Island because of his health.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 96, in Arapahoe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, George Edward Riepe and brother-in-law, Duaine Sprague.
Survivors include his sister, Thelma Ann Sprague and friend, Hilmar Lund of Denver, Colo., sister-in-law, Betty Riepe of Flagstaff, Ariz.; and aunts, Ella Riepe and Bernice Huxoll of Arapahoe.
Funeral services will be Friday, 10 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe, with the Rev. David Otten officiating. Interment will be in the Arapahoe Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post No. 343 of Edison.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to services at the church.
