COLUMBUS -- Adeline D. Thomsen died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007, at her residence at Meridian Gardens in Columbus, at the age of 89.
She was born Sept. 2, 1918, on a farm between Wilcox and Hildreth, the daughter of Henry and Gertie (Forden) Mennenga. After graduating from Wilcox High School, she worked in Minden, where she met her future husband, Wayne F. Thomsen. They were married on March 16, 1941, in First Christian Church in Minden. They lived in Minden and Red Cloud before moving to McCook, where they lived for 50 years.
She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, McCook, for more than 50 years, a member of Burlington Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary and served as an aid at Hillcrest Nursing Home for many years.
Her family was her pride and joy. Adeline was a wonderful cook and baked delicious pies. She enjoyed playing cards and loved to work in her large flower garden.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, on April 25, 1991; her parents; daughters-in-law, Julie and Helen Thomsen; sister, Iris and her husband, Don Knaus; brother, Lloyd Mennenga and his wife, Evelyn; brother Harris Mennenga and his wife, Margaret.
She is survived by her children, daughter, Glenna and husband, Jerry Engdahl of Columbus; son, Roger and wife, Darlene of Lincoln and son, Lanny and wife, Sue of Grand Island; seven grandchildren, Troy (Nicole) Engdahl, Scott (Sandy) Engdahl, Heather (Paul) Kruse, Lisa (Shawn) McMath, Cary Thomsen, Amanda (Justin) White and Alexis Thomsen; two great-grandchildren, Bailee Engdahl and Jackson McMath; brother, Merle (Alice) Mennenga; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She will also be missed by her little black poodle, Sadie.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook, with the Rev. Brad Rick officiating. Interment will be 2:30 p.m., in Minden Cemetery at Minden.
Memorials may be given in her name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.
