Bordon "Paul" Hays died Saturday Nov. 3, 2007, at his home in McCook. Although he was a two-time survivor of leukemia, he courageously succumbed to cancer at the age of 75.
He was born May 22, 1932, at Arapahoe to Bordon Charles and Pearl (Kimmel) Hays. Paul received his elementary education at Arapahoe before his family moved to Holbrook, where he graduated fromâ€ˆHolbrook High School in 1949.
On April 2, 1951, he married Imelda Marie Kohmetscher at McCook, where they spent their entire married life.
Paul was employed by the Burlington Northern Railroad and then began working in the maintenance department at Saint Catherine's Hospital. Paul became maintenance manager of the hospital, which later became McCook Community Hospital. He then owned and operated Hay's Trenching business for several years. In 1995, he retired as maintenance manager of Hillcrest Nursing Home.
He was a member of Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook and McCook Elks Lodge 1434. He was also a member of the Prairie Statesman Chapter of the S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A., a barbershop chorus.
Paul is survived by his wife, Imelda Hays of McCook; sons, Phillip and wife, Cindi of Cincinnati, Ohio, Michael and wife, Anna, Gregory and wife Cindy of McCook; and one daughter, Charlotte Dunworth and husband, Allen of Culbertson. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Robert Hays and wife, Ruth of Fresno, Calif.; and one sister, Frances Frack of Lincoln, as well as many relatives and friends.
Rosary services will be 7 p.m., Tuesday at Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook and Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook, with the Rev. Gary Brethour officiating. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment in Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.
